Race Media is seeking talented journalists, content writers and experienced racing reporters to join our growing team. We are seeking racing journos and content writers for Australian horse racing, New Zealand, Hong Kong and Singapore thoroughbred racing.

 

We want to find the voices that will discuss the tough issues and find the story behind the story, and journos that will focus on delivering timely, factually correct and informative news articles.

Your challenges and responsibilities

Discover, pitch and write regionally relevant horse racing content consistent with SEO best practices

 

Write original and authentic news and evergreen content around major racing events and keep updated

 

Monitor horse racing, gambling industry, betting brands and law developments to generate story ideas and resources that would be of use to readers interested in betting, racing and other forms of gambling

 

Collaborate with the Race Media team to research, brainstorm, create and execute content and ideation that will increase site traffic, reputation, brand awareness and revenue.

 

Use social media and other information to understand topics, themes, events, brands, and persons around which to create compelling and engaging content 

 

Display good news judgment, skilled storytelling ability, expertise in racing and gambling and a working knowledge of journalistic principals and methods

To do this job you will need

A level of editorial accuracy, consistent with brand and style requirements.

 

To be highly self-motivated and productive as the role is not office based.

 

Working understanding of horse racing, online gambling and betting in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore and Hong Kong

 

Ability to write to deadline and under pressure while maintaining attention to detail

To be available for occasional travel such as attendance at racing events from time to time to facilitate the role

 

An understanding that flexibility regarding working hours is required to adequately cover racing and weekend or after hours work may be required from time to time

 

Tertiary qualifications are desirable but not essential given the right experience

This position is 100% remote. You must be available regular business hours in your evening and/or weekend work on occasion. You must possess a stable, high-speed internet and working mobile telephone.  You must be highly self motivated and be able to perform job functions independently and work effectively either on own or as part of a team. Must be able to read and carry out various written instructions and follow oral instructions. Must be able to speak clearly and deliver information in a logical and understandable sequence, naturally or electronically. Must be capable of communicating and providing feedback calmly and professionally with numerous different personalities from diverse cultures at various levels within and outside of the organisation and demonstrate highest levels of understanding and discretion when dealing with the public. Must be able to perform responsibilities with composure under the stress of deadlines with requirements for  accuracy and quality efficiently. Must be able to effectively handle multiple, simultaneous, and changing priorities. Must be capable of exercising highest level of discretion on both internal and external confidential matters.
